Hanbleceya

Hanbleceya (crying for a vision) has been going on for a long time. It's a time when a person makes a commitment to "go on the hill" and be alone with the Creator. They go without food and water, to a place on the land to sit in their circle and pray. They pray for their loved ones and their families. They pray for all relations. They pray for themselves, that they might find what their correct relationship to all living things may be. They notice the things happening around them, to the smallest detail. They might face their fears, or confront those things that might hold them back from living their full potential. They may find a peace that they had not known before. Each one brings back a gift of words, or a vision for themselves or for the people. It is one of the ways to live the medicine wheel teachings.

The quester is supported. He or she chooses a sponsor that helps them to prepare and supports them while they are out. The sponsor may eat for them spiritually or sing songs in the night and pray for them throughout the time.

Traditionally, medicine people and spiritual leaders do not charge for ceremonies or healings. In the past, the people of the village who participated in ceremony, or received healings would generally make offerings or gifts to see that the needs of those who helped them were met.

A few things to remember....

No alcohol or drugs!
Be respectful of the land and others.
